Boston’s Kyrie Irving apologizes to Los Angeles’s LeBron James: Crowquill

Boston’s Kyrie Irving apologizes to Los Angeles’s LeBron James: Crowquill

Comment CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Boston Celtics beat the first-place Toronto Raptors Wednesday night and then Kyrie Irving apologized. An apology that made almost as much news as did his previous proclamation that the earth was flat. Irving’s apology was to former Cleveland Cavalier teammate LeBron James for the way he acted as a young player in Cleveland when James returned in 2014. There seem to be two camps on the significance of Irving’s apology. One camp believes that Irving’s apology is genuine and is a sign of the all-star point guard’s emerging maturity. The other camp believes Irving […]

Red Sox want Betts for ‘whole baseball career’

Red Sox want Betts for ‘whole baseball career’

BOSTON – Whether the Red Sox can keep Mookie Betts from testing free agency will be a hot topic until, well, he either hits free agency or agrees to a deal. At the least, ownership has a continued, stated interest in locking him up long term, as would be expected with the American League MVP. “He’s one of the great players of our generation,” Tom Werner said Friday at Winter Weekend. “Obviously, if we have conversations, they will be private, but it’s our hope that he’ll be a Red Sox player for his whole baseball career.” ⚾️ MORE JOHN […]

Red Sox Looking To Trade Catcher, Plan On Giving Blake Swihart Real Shot

Red Sox Looking To Trade Catcher, Plan On Giving Blake Swihart Real Shot

The Boston Red Sox carried three catchers on their roster for the duration of the 2018 season, but aren’t looking to do so again. Christian Vazquez, Sandy Leon and Blake Swihart split time behind the plate last year, and all three remain on the roster with spring training fast-approaching. However, Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski envisions parting with one of the backstops before the start of the regular season. “I don’t anticipate having all three on our club Opening Day,” Dombrowski said prior to Thursday’s 80th annual Boston Baseball Writers Dinner, via Boston Sports Journal’s Sean […]

Bruins Need Pivotal Piece to Become Cup Contenders

Bruins Need Pivotal Piece to Become Cup Contenders

The Boston Bruins’ 2018-19 season has been a rollercoaster, and we haven’t even made it to the All-Star break. It started with a 7-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on opening night that left those in Boston dumbfounded. They followed this up with four wins, however, immediately proving the naysayers wrong. There was one issue: the Bruins were relying heavily upon their top-line trio of David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. This was quickly targeted by the opposition, and the B’s were left starving for secondary scoring. The Boston Bruins have relied upon Patrice Bergeron’s line far too […]

Women’s hockey notebook: Pride proving start was no fluke

Women’s hockey notebook: Pride proving start was no fluke

Boston Pride forward McKenna Brand during a game in Boston, MA on Oct. 27, 2018. (Photo by Michelle Jay) Last season, the Boston Pride had just two victories with three weeks left in the season. Coming off a 6-2 home loss to the Buffalo Beauts, it looked more and more like a lost season. In the next two weeks, the Pride took two wins over the Connecticut Whale. It gave the Pride the third seed, and a chance to challenge Buffalo in overtime in the NWHL semifinals, but more than that it was a response, something they lacked all […]

Daniel Theis is the Celtics’ secret weapon

Daniel Theis is the Celtics’ secret weapon

Daniel Theis has quietly been one of the most consistent players for the Boston Celtics in his second NBA season. While most of the roster has struggled to figure out their roles on the team (Kyrie Irving and Marcus Morris not included), Theis has been nearly the exact same player since his first game in a Celtics uniform. At 6’8″, Theis has molded into the ideal stretch-five, combining every quality of a classic rim-running center with the modern opportunistic three-point shooter. Hidden in plain sight When I call Theis the secret weapon I don’t mean that he might randomly […]

Red Sox still need bullpen help in lame offseason

Red Sox still need bullpen help in lame offseason

BOSTON – This offseason sucks. Apologies if that comes off crude. But it is a daily thought, and likely shared by some. What a boring, dragging winter. Red Sox fans and employees still bask in the glow of the World Series, as they should. But the offseason is just a dud league-wide. There’s so much anticipation around Bryce Harper and Manny Machado that a buzzkill starts to grow. The Sox’ situation with their bullpen and Craig Kimbrel is similar, just on a smaller scale. J.D. Martinez Part Two, perhaps. The Yankees are signing relievers left and right, while the […]
