Tom Brady makes surprise visit to BC football

Tom Brady makes surprise visit to BC football

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady takes questions from reporters following a minicamp practice. Playing football at Boston College has its perks. Forget the prestige associated with lacing it up for a storied Division 1 program. Who knows when the winningest quarterback in Super Bowl history will drop by for a chat? The Patriots’ Tom Brady visited Chestnut Hill and the Boston College campus Sunday, stopping to speak with Eagles quarterback Anthony Brown and offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler. It was great having Tom Brady on campus. He spent a few minutes chatting with @BCFootball QB Anthony Brown and @BCCoachLoeffler […]

Daily Red Sox Links: Ranking Dave Dombrowski’s trade deadline deals

We are one week away from the MLB trade deadline . While some big names have already moved ( Manny Machado in particular), there are going to be many more transactions in the next seven days, even if none match what the Dodgers and Orioles did. As we know, the Boston Red Sox are going to be in trade talks all the way up until the 4 p.m. deadline on July 31. Relievers, starting pitchers and a few position players are all potential trade targets for Dave Dombrowski and his front office. While we wait to see what move(s) […]

Catching up with old friends: Rob Ninkovich

Catching up with old friends: Rob Ninkovich

Rob Ninkovich retired from the NFL prior to the 2017-2018 season. The Patriots’ most recent season was a little different for Rob Ninkovich. “I was changing diapers, taking my girl to school every day, and watching as a fan,” Ninkovich told Boston.com. “It was good.” Ninkovich, who retired — or as he likes to say, “graduated” — from the NFL in July 2017, played 11 seasons of professional football before calling it quits last year. There were whispers throughout the season he might make a comeback, but Ninkovich said he’s happy with his decision to walk away. “I definitely […]

What have the Boston Red Sox done at the trade deadline over the last 10 years?

What have the Boston Red Sox done at the trade deadline over the last 10 years?

With the non-waiver trade deadline just a week away, here’s a look back at what the Red Sox have done in July in each of the last 10 years. The Red Sox added a rental reliever on deadline day in 2017, obtaining righty Addison Reed from the Mets for three prospects: righties Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista and Stephen Nogosek. Reed posted a solid 3.33 ERA in 27 innings with Boston before signing with the Twins last winter. Callahan (No. 21), Nogosek (No. 23) and Bautista (No. 28) all rank in New York’s top 30 prospects, per MLB Pipeline . […]

A Midsummer Night’s Tax Scheme

A Midsummer Night’s Tax Scheme

Why did the Boston Celtics trade Abdel Nader instead of waiving him? On a sleepy evening in late July, the Boston Celtics completed a trade that stirred the imaginations of cap enthusiasts everywhere. After previously being reported to be waiving Abdel Nader , the Celtics instead reversed course and traded Nader to the Oklahoma City Thunder . Boston also sent an as yet undetermined amount of cash to OKC in the deal and acquired guard Rodney Purvis . So, why did the Celtics make such a seemingly meaningless deal in late July? And why didn’t they just waive Nader? […]

Magic number: can Robert Williams make big strides with little playing time?

Magic number: can Robert Williams make big strides with little playing time?

Time to look at what the Celtics’ rookie needs to work on during the 2018-19 season. Ahh yes, Robert Williams . Good ole’ Boo Butt. The Texas A&M product has had an interesting start to his Boston Celtics career, but it’s not all bad. Amongst the lost wallets, delayed conference calls, and missed flights sits a 6’10 20-year-old who presents one of the highest ceilings of any big man in the 2018 NBA Draft class. Yes, he’s extremely athletic. Yes, he possesses lottery talent. Yes, he’s a great shot blocker. BUT (you knew it was coming) , he’s 20. […]

The Boston Celtics Reuniting With Isaiah Thomas? It Could Have Happened

The Boston Celtics Reuniting With Isaiah Thomas? It Could Have Happened

BOSTON, MA – MAY 19, 2017: Isaiah Thomas back during his memorable 2017 postseason for the Boston Celtics. (Photo by Adam Glanzman/Getty Images) It was one of the NBA’s ugliest recent breakups, but it looks like the Boston Celtics and point guard Isaiah Thomas have made some sort of amends. During an interview with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thomas revealed that he made a call to his former boss, Celtics general manager Danny Ainge, expressing interest in returning to the team. It was somewhat surprising considering that Thomas has been very vocal about his displeasure following last offseason’s trade that […]

Porcello, Moreland propel Red Sox past Orioles

Porcello, Moreland propel Red Sox past Orioles

Hide caption By Bill Koch, @BillKoch25 BALTIMORE — The elements might have been more of a match for the Red Sox than the Orioles were on Monday night. Two rain delays spanning a total of 60 minutes did their best to unsettle Boston starter Rick Porcello. Mother Nature seemed to pose as much of a threat as the Baltimore bats, with the right-hander grinding his way through a fourth scoreless start of the season. Mitch Moreland’s solo home run leading off the second inning and a nine-man rally in the fifth were enough to help Porcello bounce back from […]
